AQUAPHOR softeners are an advanced alternative to the classic whole-home water softeners. The solution is exceptionally efficient, with low salt consumption and small amount of water needed for regeneration.

AQUAPHOR S550 contains 15 L of chlorine resistant ion exchange resin. It is a popular solution for hard water treatment — both in cottages and in city apartments. It is an ultra compact system, so there's no need for a separate utility space. Moreover, it perfectly fits under the kitchen sink.

Ion exchange resin

 

AQUAPHOR S550 softeners use a monodisperse ion-exchange resin with a granule diameter of about 0.2 mm. The "narrow" fractional composition in combination with the small size of the granules makes it possible to obtain a sorption (ion-exchange) medium with a very low hydrodynamic resistance and high kinetics of the ion-exchange reaction. The use of such an ion exchange resin in "conventional packed columns" is not possible, since the standard "slits" at the inlet and outlet of the column have a slot size of 0.5 mm.

 

Water flow in resin

 

The ion exchange resin in the S550 is densely packed between two polymer meshes with a cell size of 20 µm and an area close to the diameter of the column. Due to this, there are no parasitic stagnant volumes of resin that are not involved in the operation of the softener. Regeneration efficiency The S550 system implements "pressed-bed" countercurrent regeneration, which is not possible with free resin filling due to the floating effect. This achieves a significant - up to 70% - salt savings during regeneration.
