How often should the water filter be changed?

The filter, like any thing, can, to the delight of the owner, last longer than the period allotted by the documents, or it can break and last less. The average life of a filter depends on its type. In order for the water at home to always be really clean and fresh, it is necessary to change the modules in time. There are some nuances here, since the resource and features of the filter cartridge depend on the type of sorbent.

How to understand that a replacement module needs to be replaced

The resource of the module can be measured in liters or units of time. But the resource indicated by the manufacturer is an approximate figure.
It is useful to take into account your individual situation: the number of users, water quality, frequency of filter use. Peeping the resource in the product passport (instructions for it) is the most reliable way not to miss a replacement.

The modules in the filter jug are changed more often than others, because they are the smallest, they do not have as much sorbent, and their performance decreases faster.
Let's say if the cartridge resource is 350 liters, and about 5 liters of water per person per day, then it will last for about two months.

Filter nozzle
The resource of the module for a nozzle on a tap varies from 1000 to 4000 liters: such filters are more productive than jugs. Depending on the rate of water consumption, you can forget about such a boring task as buying a new module for about six months or a year.

Filter bottle
The service life of a replaceable module in AQUAPHOR bottle filters is 150 liters of drinking water. Smaller than a pitcher, these mobile and compact filters prepare clean water on the go, and it's always at hand.

Sink filter
There are two types of stationary filters: sorption (coal) and reverse osmosis. They have arranged different types of cartridges, which are based on different technologies.

Sorption filters
The main sorbent is activated coconut carbon in the form of a so-called carbon block. Some provide gradient filtration (some of the modules of the AQUAPHOR Pro series), while others provide uniform filtration (classic modules). Pro cartridges last longer, about 1.5 years. Standard - a little less, about 1 year. However, it all depends on the number of people and the quality of the source water.

Softening cartridges (marked “H” in AQUAPHOR filters) remain in service for quite a long time - approximately 1.5 years.

Sorption filters with hollow fiber
A separate subspecies of sorption filters, which includes a hollow fiber membrane to fight bacteria and parasites. The replacement period is once every 1-1.5 years, provided that the water at home is not too hard and not very dirty, and carbon blocks are replaced on time.

Reverse osmosis filters

The membrane is changed every one and a half to two years. But the terms of its "life" directly depend on the pre-filtration modules that protect the membrane.
They need to be changed at least once every six months, and if the water is completely bad, every 1-3 months.

Main filter
According to the type of cartridges, main filters (pre-filters) are divided into polypropylene and carbon. They are designed to purify significant volumes of water throughout the house, and therefore they have the largest resource, compared to other types of household filters - several tens of thousands of liters.
You can happily take a shower in clean water, and it will also be enough for cleaning and other household chores.
