- Hydrolysis can be seen as the reverse of a condensation reaction. By conducting an electrical voltage through the water, the chemical compound (molecules) of water is split, divided into hydrogen and oxygen. This creates various oxygen compounds that lose electrons. The most important of these is the OH radical, the free radical; a highly effective oxidant that disinfects water in seconds, without disinfection by-products.
